Phase 1 of the agrivoltaic scheme — combining agricultural activity and solar energy production on the same land parcel for eligible CEB customers.

Agrivoltaics in Mauritius

A profitable solution to protect your crops and produce electricity. Let the sun work twice for you: improve your harvests while generating solar income, without modifying your agricultural activity.

What Exactly is Agrivoltaics?

Agrivoltaics involves installing solar panels at height or in mobile structures, above or alongside agricultural crops, without blocking useful light, while:

  • Limiting excess heat
  • Reducing water needs
  • Producing electrical energy

What Types of Farmers Can Benefit?

This system is aimed at all Mauritian farmers:

  • Market gardeners
  • Livestock farmers (poultry, cattle, goats)
  • Sugar cane, banana, tropical fruit growers
  • Horticulturists, nursery owners, beekeepers
  • Small farmers or landowners
Only one condition: have at least 200 m² of clear land

CAV I — Phase 1 Key Details

  • Total cumulative capacity: 20 MW for Mauritius, 1 MW for Rodrigues
  • Maximum capacity per facility: less than 500 kWac (solar source only)
  • Open to registered planters and breeders contributing to national food security
  • Applications submitted at any CEB Customer Service Centre from 29 July 2024
  • Scheme operates under the principle of gross metering
